Don Lamana from Hudson, Florida took his Southern Speed Racing tuned Ford Mustang to the US Street Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, FL this past weekend. Lamana started his weekend with major wheelstand issues, then had issues with his fuel injection box. After borrowing another box from fellow Floridan, Kevin Fiscus, Lamana was back in the game and ready for qualifying. He thought. Before rolling up to the staging lanes for Rd. 1 of Qualifying, Lamana and team find a TPS sensor failure and couldn’t get it together to make the first round of qualifying. They come back and run the final two sessions, both with wheelstands again, and qualify in the #11 spot with a 5.05 elapsed time.
Rolling into Sunday’s eliminations, the team made a few suspension changes and threw a tune-up into the freshly installed Hyperkontrol Boost Management System from Hyperaktive Performance Solutions. The Pro Line Racing engine under the hood must have liked the tune because it shot off the line and put Lamana into Rd. 2 with a new career best, 4.689 @ 155mph. Heading back to the lanes for Rd. 2, Lamana had lane choice over Texas’ Mike Cantu with his nitrous oxide injected Big Block Ford Mustang. Lamana shot off the starting line with a holeshot advantage and never looked back, lowering his career best elapsed time once again with a 4.673 @ 155.84 which gave him lane choice in the semi-finals. Lamana took another holeshot advantage in the semi’s over Mike Freeman and was pulling away until the air shifter failed to go into high gear and Lamana faded to Freeman’s 4.73 ET.
Wade Hopkins and team spoke wonders about the new Hyperkontrol Boost Management System from Hyperaktive that looks to be a major upgrade for the X275 cars in the shop at Southern Speed Racing. Be on the look out for this Florida based team in a few weeks at Duck X Productions: Lights Out 6 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, GA as they continue their quest to the 4.5x range in X275 trim..
